Roddy Demonstrates Global Ambition

Congratulations to Roddy Buchanan from Year 13 who came through a very competitive interview process to win RBAI’s first Australia Travel Scholarship.

The award, developed and supported by RBAI alumni now living in Australia & New Zealand, will see Roddy spend 2 weeks with a school in Melbourne, before undertaking work experience in Sydney. Roddy commented

‘From a young age I have always wanted to visit the famous Timbertops School in Melbourne, where Prince Charles studied, and experience the Australian culture.  It will be an honour to represent RBAI and meet Instonians living over there.’

Sydney based alumnus Chris Wilson (RBAI 1973-80) explained why he and his peers wanted to support this opportunity:

‘The Instonians living and working out here have all benefited from traveling overseas and experiencing different cultures.  This is an opportunity for Roddy to experience a different style of learning in an Australian school, and gain international work experience in one of the world’s leading economies.’

The Principal expressed her pride in each of the applicants, as well as gratitude to all those who have shaped and supported the Scholarship:

‘Each of the boys demonstrated ambition and courage to undertake independent travel during their interviews.  We know Roddy will receive a warm welcome and great guidance from our alumni community in Australia.  This experience will benefit him as he pursues a university place and employment in the longer term.  We are extremely grateful to the Instonian community in Australia & New Zealand, and look forward to further strengthening links between them and the School.’
